Welcome to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 291!
You are joining with over 14 million workers across America to be a part of organized labor. Whether you work in a call center, an insurance agency, a teacher, a first responder, butcher, clerk, auto worker or bus driver, our union family includes people from all walks of life and job classifications, who belong to a union in their workplace.
As an AT&T call center employee or installer from the technician sector, I am honored to have you on board and look forward to our relationships as we transition into union workplaces. There may be some obstacles to overcome, especially in the beginning but as we work together and get educated these should work themselves out.
I know at the call center, given the situation you were in with two different unions vying for your representation, this was a trying time for many of you. That phase is behind us now and the IBEW is your union. To those of you that were working with the CWA, I know you put a lot of time and effort into your cause and I would like to thank you for that. While your union of choice may not have prevailed, at the end of the day I hope you can realize that whichever side you were on, the outcome would be the same, union representation and a formal negotiated contract for your workplace. There is an old saying I like to use and it seems to fit perfectly here;
United We Stand, Divided We Fall!
I would just like to share a few facts about Local Union 291. We represent Electricians, Outside Lineman, Television Broadcast Operators & Engineers at Channel 7, Housing Maintenance Workers and Hospital Maintenance Workers at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Technicians who install and maintain every Lottery terminal and machine in the State of Idaho, and now you, Call Center employees & Technicians of AT&T/DirecTV. In our Boise office we currently have four employees including our Office Manager and Building Manager who are both dues paying members of the Office & Professional Employees International Union,(OPEIU) Local 11. Also on staff are one Union Organizer and myself, both IBEW members. Local 291 has been in existence since 1902 and we are continually striving to promote excellence and professionalism while working to continue that tradition for many years to come.
Again, Welcome to all!
